New Aluminum In Green Building Guidelines To Debut At Greenbuild 2016

Guide on Using Environmental Declarations is the Second in a Series for the Building and Construction Sector

LOS ANGELES, C.A.,  – The Aluminum Association today released Aluminum in Green Buildings – A Guide to Environmental Declarations. The Guide is available at the Association’s booth #2426 during GreenBuild 2016 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, C.A. October 5-7 and also online on the Aluminum Association’s website.  The Guide is part of a series of guidelines that the Aluminum Association is developing for the building and construction market sector.

The new Guide is designed to assist and support aluminum stakeholders – aluminum producers, end-users, architects, designers, engineers and others – in understanding how to appropriately conduct environmental assessments for aluminum building products and make environmental declarations. Environmental product declaration (EPD) is becoming a significant component of US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) V4 program and is replacing the traditional recycled content method for material credit in the previous versions of LEED.

“Our industry is dedicated to advancing sustainability efforts in building and construction through the use of light weight, recyclable aluminum,” said Heidi Brock, President & CEO of the Aluminum Association. “This new guide will help building and construction end-users and other stakeholders make educated assessments when developing environmental declarations.”

Due to the highly technical nature of EPD, the Aluminum Association is devoted to guiding aluminum users in the characteristics of the metal, reasonable environmental assessment methods, and appropriate sources of data and information on aluminum product EPDs.

In 2015, at Greenbuild in Washington DC, the Association released the first of the guideline series titled Aluminum in Green Buildings – A Guide to Green Building Development and Certification with Aluminum Products. That edition was focused on guiding stakeholders to better utilize the unique material properties and life cycle characteristics of aluminum to maximize green building credits.

Aluminum in Green Buildings – A Guide to Environmental Declarations is available at the Association’s booth #2426 at GreenBuild 2016 and online.
