Aluminum Association Continues Growth with New Member Additions

As Demand Picture for Industry Continues to Brighten, Association Adds Record 104th Member Company

ARLINGTON, VA— The Aluminum Association announced today the addition of six new members, bringing total membership to 104 member companies, a record for the 82-year-old trade association, which represents the North American aluminum industry. These additions come amidst continued demand improvement for the broader industry. According to recent preliminary Aluminum Association data, the North American aluminum industry shipped an estimated 25.5 billion pounds of aluminum in 2014, the most since 2006 and reflecting 5 percent year-over-year demand growth. From the 2009 baseline, demand in the U.S. and Canada has risen nearly 40 percent.   

The new member companies reflect the scope and breadth of today’s global aluminum industry. Two of the new companies join the Association as producer members – firms that make or fabricate aluminum – while the remaining four join as associate members – firms that supply the industry with goods and services. The new producer members are:

  • Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) (http://www.albasmelter.com/): Based in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba) consistently ranks as one of the largest and most modern aluminum smelters in the world.   • Southwire (http://www.southwire.com/): Southwire Company, LLC is North America’s leading manufacturer of wire and cable used in the distribution and transmission of electricity. Throughout the company’s history, Southwire has sought to provide power through products, service and by helping empower customers, employees and communities. 

The new associate members are:

  • Foshan Langdun Aluminum Fabrication Equipment (http://www.langdunfurnace.com): Foshan Langdun Aluminum Fabrication Equipment Co., Ltd (Langdun Machinery),  located in the aluminum industry information capital---Foshan, Guangdong Province in China -- is a professional manufacturer of aluminum melting, casting and extrusion related equipment.
  • Quickdraft (http://www.quickdraft.com/): Headquartered in Canton, Ohio, Quickdraft engineers and manufactures pneumatic conveying systems for automobile plants, aluminum mills and other aluminum fabrication facilities for aluminum recycling applications.  Quickdraft systems are virtually maintenance free and are designed for 24/7 operation in conveying continuous metal edge trim or reduced recyclable material from punching or other fabricating processes to a baller, trailers, containers or furnaces.
  • Steelscape (http://www.steelscape.com/): Steelscape is a national supplier of metallic-coated and pre-painted steel and other metals.  Aimed at servicing the construction industry, Steelscape’s products can be used for a wide range of applications...from metal buildings to architectural roofing to decking and framing.

Since 2013, Aluminum Association member companies have announced domestic plant expansions and planned investment totaling more than $2.3 billion. These investments will create more than 1,000 permanent and temporary jobs.  The increase in investment is intended to capture and meet anticipated demand growth for aluminum in the automotive sector as automakers strive to make lighter and more fuel-efficient vehicles.  The investments announced to date could increase industry auto sheet capacity by more than 2 billion pounds over the next decade.
